How to Plant
Enjoy the month. Then give the page a new beginning.
Here’s how to turn your seed-paper card into a little growing project.
What You’ll Need
A New Chapter in Four Steps.
Prepare Your Pot.
Choose a pot with drainage holes and fill it with potting soil. Moisten the soil and gently level the surface without packing it tightly.
Place the Paper.
Lay the seed paper flat on the soil. If needed, gently tear it into pieces to fit, keeping them in a single layer rather than a stack. Follow your card’s instructions if pre-soaking is recommended.
Cover and Water.
Add the light covering of soil recommended for your seeds. Water gently so the paper and surrounding soil are moist, allowing excess water to drain away.
Give It Light and Care.
Choose a spot with the light and temperature your seeds need. Check the soil regularly and keep it moist while the seeds germinate. Once seedlings appear, follow the care guidance for that plant.
Before you plant: This is a general seed-paper guide. Use the seed-specific instructions supplied with your calendar for soaking, planting depth, light and temperature. Germination times and results vary with the seeds and growing conditions.
Little Things That Help.
Moist, with Good Drainage.
Check the soil rather than watering on a fixed schedule. Avoid letting the paper dry out during germination or leaving the pot standing in water.
Keep the Layers Light.
Spread paper pieces out instead of piling them up. Follow the recommended planting depth so the seeds are not buried too deeply.
Give Your Seeds Time.
Different seeds sprout at different rates. Check their expected germination period and growing conditions before changing your routine.
A Few Growing Questions.
Do I have to plant each card straight away?
You can wait for suitable planting conditions. Until then, keep unused seed paper in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Check any storage guidance supplied with your calendar.
Can I start growing indoors?
A pot can be a convenient starting point if you can provide the light and temperature required by your seeds. Some plants will need more space or outdoor conditions as they grow.
How long will it take to sprout?
Timing depends on the seed variety, temperature, moisture and light. Refer to your calendar’s seed information for the expected germination period. Sprouting and flowering happen at different stages.
What if nothing is growing?
Check the seed instructions, planting depth, moisture, drainage, light and temperature. If the expected germination period has passed, contact us with your order details and a photo of your planting setup.
